Crystal Fong Counseling
Welcome — I’m Crystal Fong, a New York–licensed therapist offering virtual psychotherapy for adults and couples. I work with clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves or others, and who are seeking support that feels grounded, affirming, and collaborative.
I am especially passionate about supporting the Asian community, whose mental health needs are often underrepresented and misunderstood, while also welcoming clients from all backgrounds. Together, we’ll work to help you feel more grounded, seen, and empowered in your life and relationships.
About Me
I’m a Chinese-American psychotherapist who believes healing happens through both mind and body. My background in dance and martial arts taught me how the body holds stress and how movement can support emotional resilience — a perspective I bring to therapy.
I share my life with two dogs, whose presence reminds me daily of connection, regulation, and the power of the human–animal bond. I combine these insights with relational, culturally responsive approaches to help adults and couples feel seen, grounded, and empowered.
I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University and have been working in the mental health field since 2021. Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent nearly a decade in corporate and start-up environments, which gives me a deep understanding of stress, burnout, performance pressure, and life transitions.

I work with adults (18+) and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity concerns, stress, perfectionism, and life transitions. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and have particular experience supporting individuals from Asian, immigrant, and BIPOC communities, as well as those who may be new to therapy.
-
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency may change over time depending on your needs, goals, and availability.
-
Yes. Research shows that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health concerns, including anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges.
-
If I’m not in-network with your insurance, you may be able to receive partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits.
A superbill is a detailed receipt that I provide, which you submit directly to your insurance company. Your insurer then determines whether and how much they reimburse based on your specific plan. Coverage varies, so I recommend confirming your out-of-network mental health benefits with your insurance provider.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-informed therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming in the present. Rather than focusing on detailed retelling, EMDR works with how memories are stored in the nervous system, helping reduce emotional intensity, negative beliefs, and physical responses connected to past experiences.
-
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy that focuses on improving communication, increasing emotional connection, and managing conflict in healthier ways. It helps couples build skills around trust, understanding, and emotional safety — while also addressing patterns that may be causing distress in the relationship.
-
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) typically develops after a single traumatic event, such as an accident, assault, or sudden loss.
Complex trauma refers to repeated or long-term experiences, often occurring in relationships (such as childhood emotional neglect, chronic criticism, or ongoing family stress). While symptoms may overlap with PTSD, complex trauma often affects identity, self-worth, emotional regulation, and relationships.
Therapy for complex trauma tends to focus on building safety, trust, and emotional capacity over time, rather than only processing specific memories.
